I call bs on that article...
"This means an increase in routine and repetition in all things
mundane, both personal and cultural. Television and internet have
also become more deeply embedded in modern life, increasing the
amount of time we spend being mentally asleep during the day,
decreasing the quality and quantity of memories."
Really? So spending 18 hours behind a mule for most of your short
life is more memorable then tv? I beg to differ :).
. . . "there has been a simultaneous increase in
novelty among spiritually significant trends."
What exactly is a 'spiritually significant trend'...actually that
whole sentence reeks to me of faux learned wisdom that really doesn't
mean...anything.
"Rate of growth among receptive individuals in terms of awareness
and emotional maturity is accelerating."
O'rly? Apprently I have not been keeping track of the
'pseudo-scientological-new-age-ethos-emotional-growth-metric' index.
Or maybe I'm just not one of those 'receptive' individuals.
Sorry stuff like that rubs me the wrong sometimes, I get that sense
that the writer is trying to hide the fact that they're bullshitting
by using novel phrases they made up themselves (to steal their word).
Especially when citing dubious trends that are completely
unquantifiable (increase in novelty among blah blah for instance).
